Watch this video to see how air sealing and insulating your home can increase energy efficiency.
Sealing air leaks in your home is a simple, cost-effective way to lower heating and cooling costs, increase comfort, and create a healthier indoor environment. Heat can find its way out of the home through a wide variety of gaps, cracks, and holes in all parts of the house. With our blower door test and home energy audit, we can quantify how much air is leaking out of your house and pinpoint the leaks.
From the attic to the basement, Standard Heating & Air Conditioning Company can locate and seal air leaks all throughout the home. If you're interested in having us diagnose your home, call or e-mail us today! We proudly offer our services in Mt. Brook, Birmingham, Homewood and many areas throughout Alabama.
Client in Moody, AL had no insulation around their stairs which allowed heated or cooled air to escape up into the attic. We were able to add insulation to help with drafts and make their home more energy efficient.
The stair cover insulates and prevents unwanted attic air from dropping into the living space.
We added insulated covers over all the recessed can lights in the attic, Then we sealed all wire and olumbing penetrations in the attic with one part foam.
We used two part spray foam insulation to coat the attic duct system which seals any air leaks and better insulates the duct work.
We then installed a two foot wide plywood walkway with dams on each side to hold back the insulation.
Last but not least we sprayed in new Cellulose insulation to bring the R value up to a R-49.
We replaced old insulation with new Cellulose, Silver Glow foam board insulating the knee walls and gable vertical walls.
Attic wire and plumbing penetrations were sealed with one part spray foam, duct work was spray foamed with two part foam insulation.
We then install a two foot wide plywood walk way with plywood dams to hold back insulation.
We then blew in new Cellulose insulation to brint the R value up to an R-49.
It's important to note that neither insulation or air sealing alone are enough to reduce heat flow. Air sealing should always be done before insulation is installed.
As part of our air sealing strategy, we typically air seal the attic first since this is where the most significant leakage occurs. The basement and crawl space areas are our second priority. Air sealing these spaces eliminates a major source of cold air infiltration.
Fiberglass insulation is too light to stop air leakage, however, spray foam insulation can effectively reduce air leakage. Air sealing and insulation upgrades from Standard Heating & Air Conditioning Company can possibly cut your heating and cooling costs in half.
Standard Heating & Air Conditioning Company technicians can perform a second blower door test when the air sealing work is done. The lower leakage rating confirms that you have a more airtight home, with enhanced energy performance, greater comfort, and lasting savings on your heating and cooling bills.
